One of the most asked questions we get at our lab is: what is the difference between the scanning options you offer, which one is better and which one is right for me?
We thought we would create our first blog post here on our site to explain exactly what our options are and what are scanners can do. At Cameralisatie we use Fujifilm Frontier SP3000 and SP500 scanners to scan all our film. These scanners are beasts and give amazing and consistent results.
When you first develop and scan with us you’ll see we offer multiple options for scanning. We'll start withg our resolution options. We currently have 3 options when it comes to scanning; LITE, PLUS, XL.
LITE: 3000x2000
PLUS: 4500x3000
XL: 5300x3500
These sizes are based on 35mm film. Which in our lab we develop and scan the most. Now for 120 (medium-format) the maximum resolution our scanners can achieve is a bit different. Here it’s based on the format shot on 120 film (6x4.5, 6x6, 6x7. 6x8, 6x9).
Because each format has a different maximum scan resolution we’ve decided to ONLY offer our PLUS option for 120 (medium-format) film. This means that for our PLUS pricing you will automatically get the highest resolution our scanners offer on that format of film you’ve shot. We will break those down below:
(6x4.5) 4800x3500
(6x6) 3500x3500
(6x7) 4400x3500
(6x8) 4700x3500
(6x9) 5300x3500
LITE SCANS:
Perfect for beginners or quick jobs, Lite scans are ideal when high resolution isn’t necessary. They’re a great, budget-friendly option—especially for disposable cameras, testing out a new camera, or casual shots that don’trequire top-tier quality.
PLUS SCANS:
Our go-to choice and a customer favorite. These scans offer a resolution of 4500x3000 (on 35mm) and are the sweet spot. Whether you’re editing, archiving, or printing larger formats, PLUS scans give you the flexibility and quality to do it all.
XL SCANS:
Our highend option. This is pretty much the best option you can get before moving towards something like an imacon or drum-scanner this scan option provides a resolution of 5300x3500 (on 35mm) with incredible depth, and enough detail to satisfy even the pickiest pixel perfectionist.
Not sure where to start? No worries—we’ve got you. If you're new to film or feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the scan options, just drop us a message or come and visit our lab and we’ll help you figure out what suits you best.
For customers who are looking for even more option to customise their scanning experience we've made a seperate blog post where we go over half-frame scanning, xpan format or custom file format options. read it here
